Sweet Campfire Apples for Crisp Fall Nights

It’s apple picking season come fall, so why not make a delicious and easy dessert using the apples you picked and the heat of your own charcoal?

Foil Packet Baked Apples (serves 4)

Recipe from freshoffthegrid.com

Ingredients

4 large apples (honeycrisp or Fuji work great)

4 tablespoons brown sugar

2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

½ teaspoon nutmeg

4 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut in cubes, softened or melted

4 tablespoons old-fashioned rolled oats

4 tablespoons chopped walnuts or pecan (optional)

4 teaspoons raisins (optional)

Pinch of salt

Roll of heavy-duty aluminum foil

Toppings (optional) could include vanilla ice cream, whipped cream or jarred caramel sauce

Instructions

In a small bowl, mix together oats, brown sugar, salt and butter. Remove core from each apple, creating a hole so you can stuff with oat/sugar mixture. Stuff the apple hole with the oat/sugar mixture. Place each apple in a square of foil, sealing the foil packet and insuring opening flap is on top. Place each foil apple on hot charcoal using tongs. Bake for roughly 30 minutes. Open carefully, let cool slightly and top with desired topping.
