If you’re looking for a reason to eat, just check out the number of days in September that honor food. From National Cherry Popover Day to National Ants on a Log Day (yes, there is a day celebrating the celery, peanut butter and raisin snack from childhood), food is the name of the game when it comes to special days this month.
National Ice Cream Cone Day (9/22):
Check out Let’s Chill Homemade Ice Cream in Coral Cables, Florida where you can order flights of their small batch ice cream (stay at Encore Miami Everglades); Melt in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina offers unique flavors like Honey Lavender and goat cheese ice cream with raspberry swirl (stay at Carolina Shores RV Resort) or Cloud City Ice Cream in Portland, Oregon which uses only natural and locally-sourced ingredients (camp at Portland-Fairview RV Park).
National Lobster Day (9/25):
Of course, you’ll want some Maine lobster so if you’re camping at any of our Bar Harbor campgrounds, consider the Bar Harbor Lobster Pound which offers lobster in a variety of ways including lobster rolls, lobster tacos, lobster nachos, and lobster grilled cheese. If you’re camping at Thousand Trails Moody Beach, the Maine Diner is a traditional diner atmosphere with offerings including surf and turf, lobster rolls and a lobster club sandwich!
National Key Lime Pie Day (9/26):
Of course, go to the source, the Florida Keys! Key limes are not originally native to Florida; they were brought here by Spanish settlers in the 16th century and thrived in the Florida climate. Top key lime pies to sample in The Keys can be found at The Blond Giraffe Key Lime Pie Factory (in Tavernier on Key Largo); Kermit’s Key West Lime Shoppe (in Key West); Midway Cafe (Islamorada) and at the S.S. Wreck & Galley Grill in Marathon. Camp at Encore Sunshine Key or Encore Fiesta Key to get your fill of Key Lime Pie in The Keys.
National Drink Beer Day (9/28):
Of course, we wouldn’t ignore beverages this month so here are a few breweries to help celebrate this day. According to USA Today, Allagash Brewery is one of the best brewery tours in the US. Book a stay at Thousand Trails Moody Beach to experience this tour (allagash.com). Also making the list is Trőegs Independent Brewing in Hershey, Pennsylvania who makes the best-selling IPA in Pennsylvania (book a stay at Thousand Trails Hershey). Make a day of it and explore the Mt. Hood Territory Tap Trail visiting locally owned breweries, cideries and distilleries along the trail (book a stay at Mt. Hood Village Resort).
