June 18 is International Picnic Day, and it was created for no other reason than to get people to enjoy having a meal outside! As a camper, eating outside is second nature, right? But on the 18th, let’s take that outdoor meal and head to some of the best picnic spots in the US!
Wolfe’s Neck Woods State Park in Freeport, Maine is noted as a great camping spot thanks to the canopy of oak trees and great views of Casco Bay. Add in some delicious lobster rolls and the picnic will be the Maine event of your camping trip.
Quite different from the bright lights and bustle of the Las Vegas Strip is Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area which is about 17 miles from the Strip. San Antonio’s Brackenridge Park is listed on the National Register for Historic Places – how’s that for a fancy schmancy picnic location? And the stone picnic tables and benches were constructed by the Works Progress Administration during Franklin Roosevelt’s presidency and date back to 1939. The Park, which has several attractions located within it including a Japanese Tea Garden and the San Antonio Zoo, is celebrating 125 years this year! Don’t forget the cake for this special picnic.
Zephyr Cove in Lake Tahoe is a great place to picnic lakeside with beautiful views of Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Plus, there is a mile of sandy beach to stroll and several mountain trails to hike to walk off the lovely picnic lunch.
