Tasty Treats with 5 or Fewer Ingredients

With May being the 5th month of the year, we thought we’d focus on recipes that have five ingredients for campside cooks, Get it – 5 for 5? OK, jokes aside, here are a few great things to cook up using just five ingredients.

Bacon and Cheese Pull-aparts

Ingredients

14 dinner rolls (thawed, still cold)

1/4 cup melted butter

8 strips of cooked bacon (broken into small pieces)

2 cups cheddar cheese (grated)

Temperature Control for Dutch Oven using Briquets: bake at 350°F, oven top 16, oven bottom 8

Instructions

Cut the rolls in half. Then, pour the melted butter into the 12-inch Dutch oven. Take the rolls and begin rolling them in the butter, giving each a coat of butter. Arrange these inside the Dutch oven. Sprinkle the tops of the rolls with bacon and cheese. Use as much or as little as you’d like. After garnishing, take the lid and cover the Dutch Oven. Let the rolls rise until their size is doubled. Bake for 20-25 minutes at 350°F. When finished, remove from heat and enjoy.

Chicken Pot Pie

Ingredients

2 29-ounce cans mixed vegetables (with potatoes)

1 10.75-ounce can cream of chicken soup

1 10.75-ounce can cream of mushroom soup

2 large, cooked chicken breasts, cut into cubes

1 10-ounce can refrigerated biscuit dough

Instructions

Stir vegetables, chicken soup, mushroom soup, and chicken cubes together in a Dutch oven with a flat lid. Cook over campfire coals until warmed through but not boiling, about 15 minutes. Arrange biscuit dough segments in a layer atop the vegetable mixture. Place lid on the Dutch oven and carefully arrange some hot coals atop the lid. Heat until the biscuits are cooked through, 15 to 30 minutes.
