If your idea of a summer vacation includes plenty of water, why not consider a lakeside adventure this summer? We have campgrounds near the lake, on the lake, around the lake and more. From sunbathing to fishing to watersports, pick the one that suits your summer plans!
Lake Tahoe: Crystal clear water with the Sierra Nevada Mountains as a backdrop make a vacation in Lake Tahoe one for the summer to-do list. Book a glamping cabin or cottage at Tahoe Valley Campground and head into South Lake Tahoe to explore all the lake has to offer. Paddleboard or kayak, wade into the water, enjoy a picnic waterside or take an excursion to Vikingsholm Castle, an historic 38-room “summer home” that is considered one of the best examples of Scandinavian architecture in America, which is accessible via a one-mile hiking trail (note: it is steep!).

Lake Michigan: Get the best of both worlds with a glamping stay at Michigan’s Thousand Trails Bear Cave which puts you just about 20 minutes from the shores of Lake Michigan and the lakeside resort towns that include New Buffalo, Union Pier, St. Joe, and the charming Three Oaks. Here, you will be surrounded by woodlands, wildflowers and have access to the St. Joseph River for fishing and boating. Then take about a 20 minutes’ drive and you will find the beaches of New Buffalo, St. Joe and Union. Spend the day sunbathing or beachcombing and make sure to take in the shops and eateries in town. Other nearby attractions include Fernwood Botanical Garden, Warren Dunes State Park and McCoy’s Creek Trail for a dog-friendly, short hike with several scenic waterfalls.

Lake Mead: Book a glamping stay at Thousand Trails Las Vegas and check out Lake Mead Recreation Area where you can boat, canoe, kayak, jet-ski and sport fish or just enjoy sitting at water’s edge soaking up on the sunshine at Boulder Beach (which is just one of the beaches here). For views of the lake with some cardio tossed in, consider a hike on the Historic Railroad Trail (a long but easy trek and best done before the summer heat hits). And whether you’re coming or going to Lake Mead, don’t forget to stop off and see the architectural wonder that is Hoover Dam and the reason why Lake Mead exists!

Another option is the lakeside campgrounds we offer where you don’t even have to venture offsite to enjoy the lake life. O’Connell’s RV Campground in Amboy, Illinois has lakes and rivers and all kinds of onsite fun, Texas’ Thousand Trails Lake Conroe is great for bass fishing and the beautiful Lewis Smith Lake is yours to enjoy when camping at Alabama’s Thousand Trails Hidden Cove. There are plenty more lakeside camping options, so check out thousandtrails.com for more lake life fun!
