Don’t find yourself scrambling to plan the best summer ever – instead, get a jump on the details and consider a summer camping trip to these great locations.
Emerald Isle, North Carolina: Do you know why they call it the Crystal Coast? Not only is the water crystal clear here, but it is said there is a phenomenon that when the sun reflects off the water it creates a crystal effect. We think you have to see for yourself, so book a stay at Emerald Isle RV Resort and enjoy this little North Carolina gem. Kayak, paddleboard or fish in Bogue Sound; drive into Beaufort, the historic coastal town, to enjoy shopping and waterfront dining and some pirate history at the North Carolina Maritime Museum; enjoy the interactive exhibits at the North Carolina Aquarium in Pine Knoll Shores, or simply spend the day at the beach on Emerald Isle’s wide beachfront where shelling, swimming and lazing in the sun is the thing to do!
Amboy, Illinois: A trip to O’Connell’s RV Campground is the perfect midwestern camping experience that may well bring you back to your childhood camping experiences. It’s the perfect campground if you want to just hang out and play all day in the water or on land. Why? Because it has multiple swimming pools, a waterslide, a creek for fishing, kayaking or canoeing, plenty of sports courts to challenge your camping friends in a few rounds of outdoor games! Plus, hiking and biking trails surround the campground so you can commune with nature while getting in some exercise. They also have a calendar of special events and arts and crafts classes. Offsite activities could include a drive into nearby Dixon to see the boyhood home of President Ronald Reagan or do some shopping. The nearby Amboy Marsh Nature Preserve is great for birding and nature photography.
Oceanside, California: Down San Diego way, you will find the sunny camping getaway known as Oceanside RV Resort, which is the perfect camp location if a day at the beach and a night around the firepit sound like the perfect summer camping trip. Oceanside is home to the California Surf Museum which details the culture and heritage of this watersport. Also found here is the Oceanside Pier, which at 1954 feet is considered the longest wooden pier on the West Coast. Oceanside has several beaches including Breakwater Way (great for surfers); Tyson Street Beach, which is closest to the Oceanside Pier; and Buccaneer Beach, which is great for families and birdwatching. If you want to bike, consider the Coastal River Trail or the San Luis Rey River Trail while hikers can consider the El Corazon Park Nature Trail, which is friendly to leashed dogs and runs 1.8 miles out and back.
