Thanksgiving Ingredients with a Twist

Here are a few recipes that use a few popular Thanksgiving meal ingredients, but we’re serving them up differently. Instead of cranberry sauce, try a tasty cranberry dip. Instead of apples in your turkey stuffing, make a cake with them instead!

Cranberry Bliss Dip

(Recipe from campgrilleat.com)

Ingredients

4 ounces full-fat cream cheese, softened

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

¾ cup powdered sugar

1 tablespoon orange zest, finely grated

1 teaspoon vanilla

Pinch of salt

½ cup dried cranberries

Shortbread cookies, for dipping

Instructions

In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese and butter together until smooth and fluffy, about 2 minutes. Fold in the sugar, orange zest, vanilla, and salt. Beat until smooth, about 2 minutes. Stir in the cranberries. Serve immediately with the shortbread cookies for dipping. Or refrigerate until ready to serve.

Apple Skillet Cake

(Recipe from campgrilleat)

Ingredients

4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

1 ⅔ cups all-purpose flour

¾ cup granulated sugar

2 teaspoons baking powder

½ teaspoon salt

2 large eggs

½ cup milk

½ cup plain Greek yogurt

¼ cup unsweetened applesauce

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 large apple, peeled and thinly slices

Instructions

Preheat the oven or grill to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. If using the grill, prep it for indirect cooking. Butter a 12-inch cast iron skill well, making sure to completely coat. In a medium bowl, whisk the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. In a large bowl, combine the melted butter, eggs, milk, yogurt, applesauce, and vanilla. Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and mix until combined and no dry patches remain. The batter will be thick. Spread into the prepared skillet and arrange the apple slices in a single layer on top of the cake. Bake in the oven or covered grill over indirect heat, until the cake is golden and the tester comes out dry, about 35-40 minutes. If using a grill, make sure heat is maintained at 375. Cool for 30 minutes.
