Bring Global Flavors to the Campfire

If the 2026 international soccer tournament introduced you to so many countries you may not be familiar with, it may have also got you thinking about all the different foods from around the world you may want to try. We found a camp-friendly global recipe to try on your next camping trip.

Shakshuka

This tasty breakfast egg dish hails from North Africa 

Ingredients 

3 tablespoons olive oil 

1 medium onion, diced 

1 red bell pepper, seeded and diced 

1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and diced 

2 teaspoons garlic powder 

2 teaspoons paprika 

1 teaspoon cumin 

½ teaspoon chili powder 

1 28-ounce can crushed tomato 

4 large eggs 

1 cup crumbled Feta cheese 

1 bunch cilantro, roughly chopped 

Salt and pepper, to taste 

Crusty bread for dipping! 

Instructions 

Heat olive oil in a cast iron skillet over the campfire or stove until the oil shimmers. Add the chopped onion, bell pepper and jalapeno. Cook until the onion is tender and barely browned (about three minutes.) Add the spices and stir, then add the canned tomatoes and stir again. Simmer the sauce and then make four wells in the sauce. Crack one egg into each well. Cover the skillet and allow the eggs to poach in the sauce. Top with crumbled feta and cilantro. Serve with crusty bread for dipping!
