July is peak family vacation so instead of following the crowd, go where the crowd isn’t. Call them underrated or uncrowded but don’t call them unremarkable. We found some July destinations that will make for a truly memorable vacation with a little less of the crowd and a lot more room to relax! 

The Oregon Coast

Most people are flocking to the ocean beaches but because the Oregon coast tends to be cooler, maybe people mistake the cooler temps for less fun and sun. That is absolutely not the truth, though! Idyllwild, California  

Thousand Trails Idyllwild

This California destination in the San Jacinto mountains was noted by worldatlas.com as “a California town ideal for a summer getaway.” Thanks to the mountain location, there’s no summer heat to beat but you certainly can’t beat the scenery. Warm and sunny, but not hot days, and cool nights make for the perfect camping getaway with the outdoors as the main attraction. The Ernie Maxwell Scenic Trail  is considered an easy, just over 5 mile hike with a shaded trail and scenic views. Stop by the Idyllwild Area Historical Society Museum (idyllwildhistory.org) to learn about the history of the area and enjoy the beautiful gardens which are open 365 days a year.
