6 for 6: Six Days and Ways to Celebrate June

Half the year is gone already but camping season is just revving up! Here are six great ideas to help you camp and have fun this June:

The whole month of June is National Zoo and Aquarium Month

The whole month of June is National Zoo and Aquarium Month, so make sure to spend some time camping and time visiting some of the best zoos and aquariums near our campgrounds. Check out these top zoos: San Diego Zoo (stay at Thousand Trails Pio Pico); Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden (stay at Thousand Trails Wilmington); and the Fort Worth Zoo (stay at Thousand Trails Bay Landing). Aquarium visits should include California’s Monterey Bay Aquarium (stay at Marina Dunes RV Resort), the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta (stay at Pine Mountain RV Resort), and the New England Aquarium in Boston (stay at Thousand Trails Sturbridge).

June 12: Red Rose Day

June 12 celebrates the red rose which is a sign of love, romance, and beauty. We think all roses are beautiful, especially red roses, and June is the perfect month to check out some of the best US rose gardens as June is considered the best month for rose blooms. Top US rose gardens include the International Rose Test Garden in Portland (book a stay at Portland Fairview RV Park), the John and Mabel Ringling Museum of Art Rose Garden in Sarasota, Florida (stay at Encore Ramblers Rest); and the Tyler Municipal Rose Garden in Tyler, Texas (stay at Thousand Trails Lake Tawakoni).

June 18: National Fishing Day

“You get a line, I’ll get a pole” and we’ll go fishing to celebrate National Fishing Day on June 18. Great places for camping and fishing include O’Connell’s RV Campground in Amboy, Illinois where options include onsite as well as the nearby Rock River for walleye and catfish; fish from the pier in Emerald Isle, North Carolina for bluefish, pompano and flounder or hit the seas with a charter for some deep-sea fishing adventures (stay at Emerald Isle RV Resort); and of course, the “Striped Bass Capital of the World” aka Lake Texoma (stay at Thousand Trails Lake Texoma) is one hot spot for fishing.

June 19: Juneteenth

Juneteenth (June 19) celebrates the first time that Black Americans were considered free people in the US. To celebrate, visit some of these spots –  Houston’s Emancipation Park is an historic site as the land was originally purchased by freedmen in 1872 (stay at Thousand Trails Lake Conroe); the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture (stay at Thousand Trails Harbor View); and the African American Museum of Dallas (stay at Thousand Trails Bay Landing).

June 21: first day of summer

June 21 is not only the first day of summer but fittingly it’s also National Seashell Day. According to nationalcalendarday.com, the purpose of this day is to “put our toes in the sand and admire the beauty of seashells.” You don’t have to tell us twice and here are some places we’ll celebrate: Sanibel Island, Florida is considered the “Seashell Capital of the World” so book a stay at Encore Fort Myers Beach to be where all the shell action is; the beaches of Cape May, New Jersey are a must if you’re looking for the elusive shell of the Atlantic surf clam and the white sand beaches of the Gulf Shores of Alabama are can yield sand dollars! Book a stay at Thousand Trails Sea Pines and Gulf Shores RV Resort, respectively.

June 28:National Foodie Day

Save your appetites for June 28, because that is National Foodie Day, a day especially for those who know it’s all about the food. Visit some of the best food cities to celebrate this day and toss in a side of summer camping. Two foodie cities in the US are San Francisco and Houston. According to Food & Wine magazine, San Francisco makes the list of their 2026 top dining cities for several reasons including the farm-to-table options as well as the abundance of fresh local seafood, produce and artisanal goods (book a stay at San Francisco RV Resort). Back in 2018, GQ magazine called Houston the “next great food city” and they were right. Houston offers foodies incredible ethnic cuisines and fusions of ethnicity like Tex-Mex, Louisiana Creole and Asian influence (book a stay at Thousand Trails Lake Conroe).
