If your 2026 resolution is to be more active or learn a new skill, let us help you out. Camp near these locations that are excellent when it comes to partaking in certain outdoor activities:
Learn to Ski:
Two prime ski areas located near our campgrounds include California’s Lake Tahoe and Oregon’s Mt. Hood. Book a stay at Tahoe Valley Campground or Mt. Hood Village Resort and check out what these giant puffs of powder have to offer! Located in South Lake Tahoe, Tahoe Valley is a short distance from some of the best ski resorts in the area. Check out snow.com to find the resort that works best for your budget and itinerary. Similarly, you can’t go wrong if you choose to learn or reacquaint yourself with the sport in Oregon’s Mt. Hood Territory which is home to the legendary Mt. Hood Skibowl and the iconic Timberline Lodge. To check skiing options in the area, visit mthoodterritory.com.
Learn to Fish:
Go to Texas or Wisconsin on a camping trip and you’ll find plenty of campground locations that can fulfill your fishing wishes. A stay at Thousand Trails Lake Texoma will put you in perfect proximity to “the striped bass capital of the world” which is what many consider Lake Texoma. To find a guide, visit texoma-fishing.com. There’s also Thousand Trails Lake Conroe where you don’t even have to leave the campground to try your luck at catching wide-mouth bass and catfish as the campground sits adjacent to the lake. Come summer, head to the heartland and try out our Wisconsin resorts that are great for fishing including Yukon Trails Camping Resort, which has a catch and release pond. And if you’re looking for walleye, camp at Neshonoc Lakeside Campground and enjoy the lake and all its fishy offerings here.
Take to the Rapids:
For some great white-water rafting, check out Oregon’s Deschutes River or California’s Tuolumne River. While the Tuolumne River has plenty of rapids for the experienced rafter, there is an 18-mile stretch that offers calmer waters for those just learning to get their feet wet, so to speak. Book a stay at Thousand Trails Yosemite Lakes and check out some of the trip outfitters in the area at visitcalifornia.com/experience/tuolumne-river. A stay at Oregon’s Thousand Trails Bend-Sunriver is a perfect spot to explore the rafting opportunities on the Deschutes River. Ouzel Outfitters (oregonrafting.com) offers rafting trips for all skill levels and ages.
Take up Pickleball:
Maybe you’ve held for as long as you could with this racket sport that began to gain popularity in the early 2000s and by 2015 was recognized as the fastest growing sport in the US. If you’re ready to learn why you need to “stay out of the kitchen” or what a “Joey” is, then come camp with us. Our network has more than 70 campgrounds with pickleball courts and we’ve made it easy to find out where they are located – just visit thousandtrails.com/pickleball/pickleball-search.
