Winter will be here before you know it and how do you plan to escape the weather? Maybe you don’t need to escape the weather but are just looking to change up your view a bit? Consider these winter road trips:
Take your time and enjoy the Florida Keys this winter. Make Sunshine Key RV Resort your home base and then spend a few weeks of your winter exploring what The Keys has to offer. Key Largo is great for snorkeling with John Pennekamp State Park, a perfect spot for this adventure. Then there’s the steamboat cruises available on the restored African Queen, from the 1951 movie of the same name that starred Katherine Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart. There’s the crazy “conch attitude” that can only be found in Key West – home to all the Hemingway lore, the best Key Lime pie and all the cool vibes you can imagine. Islamorada has the History of Diving Museum, the quirky Rain Barrel Village and is also known as the Sport Fishing Capital of the World. Big Pine Key is not only home to our campground, but also Bahia Honda State Park and the National Key Deer Refuge.

St. George, Utah is the state’s southernmost desert city which means winter brings mild temperatures and the opportunity to spend plenty of time outside. Book a stay at St. George/Hurricane KOA Journey and you’re about 30 minutes from Zion National Park, which enjoys less crowds during winter. Winter hikes here can include Johnson Canyon Trail, which is under a mile or the 2-mile Red Reef Trail. Other options in St. George/Hurricane can include a visit to the Red Hills Desert Garden, Utah’s first desert conservation garden which features 5,000 plants that thrive in the desert climate as well as a 1,150-foot stream stocked with native and endangered fish species.

Leavenworth, Washington may not be as warm as some winter getaway destinations, but this is a destination that has plenty to do in winter and you’ll enjoy being outside. If you can make it before the holidays, December brings all kinds of festive events with visits from Santa, gingerbread contests, and thousands of sparkling lights. If you plan to come after the holidays, those sparkling lights will remain up through February. The Leavenworth Ski Hill is great for skiing and snowboarding while Wenatchee State Park is great for a snowshoe adventure. The town of Leavenworth is always charming no matter what time of year, so enjoy the wine tasting rooms, the great food and the unique Nutcracker Museum. Book a stay at Thousand Trails Leavenworth to experience this winter wonderland.
