Sometimes bigger may not be better, but well, just bigger. Like when it comes to some of the biggest things you can find while road trippin’ from here to there and back again. Big balls of twine, big rocking chairs, big clocks, big lumberjacks…what can we find on our next big road trip??
If you’re heading to Thousand Trails Diamond Caverns which is in the vicinity of the world’s longest-known cave system, Mammoth Cave, you will be happy to know that it is also near to the World’s Largest Tack Pin. Located in Elizabethtown which is about 45 miles from the campground, the tack is confirmed by the Guiness World Records as the largest of its kind. The tack, which stands 21-feet and 7 inches high, can be found outside the building that houses the Transit Authority of Central Kentucky, also known as TACK.

The State of Maine is big on blueberries with these round little berries playing a major part in Maine’s history and economy, so where else would you find the world’s largest blueberry? About 40 miles north of Patten Pond Camping Resort, you’ll find one really large blueberry welcoming you to Wild Blueberry Land, a theme park dedicated to the wild blueberries. Even more fun is the fact that you can go inside the blueberry, which is actually a geodesic dome, and buy, guess what – fresh ripe blueberries, blueberry jam, blueberry pies, and on and on.

We’ve all heard a big fish story from friends of fish, but have you heard the one about the largest angel fish? If you’re camping in the Florida Keys at either Encore Sunshine Key or Encore Fiesta Key, make your way over to the Tilden’s Scuba Center in Marathon and you will find the world’s largest Queen angelfish, complete with a giant coral reef. She’s a real “beaut” thanks to a recent facelift and guaranteed not to be the one that got away – feel free to take pics to show all your friends.
If you’re camping at Oregon’s Portland-Fairview RV Park you may find yourself at a fork in the road, literally! The 37-foot, 2.5-ton stainless steel fork (does it fit in any dishwasher?) welcomes visitors to Fairview Food Plaza which is a food park featuring food trucks serving up all kinds of culinary treats from pho to hot chicken to burritos and burgers. And while this giant piece of silverware hasn’t been officially designated as a Guiness World Record holder yet, when it comes to big forks, we can certainly say that’s one big fork!

Have you met Tommy, the World’s Largest Crab Sculpture, according to the World Record Academy? Tommy welcomes diners to Myrtle Beach’s Giant Crab Seafood Restaurant in South Carolina. Tommy is 25 feet tall, 35 feet wide and weighs in at 4.5 tons. Word has it that if one of Tommy’s legs were available as fresh crab legs on the restaurant’s seafood buffet it would cost a diner roughly $24,000. Camp at Carolina Shores RV Resort, come say hello to Tommy and enjoy some great seafood!
Is a 60-minute ride from camp worth it to see the world’s largest egg? About 70 miles from the big egg in Mentone is Twin Mills Camping Resort, where you can camp and see what the fuss is all about. Standing 10 feet tall and made of concrete, this 3,000-pound egg could make a lot of omelets if it was real. And while 10 feet seems small in comparison to our other large items list, remember a standard egg is roughly 2 inches, so this is a really big egg. Originally built as an advertisement for a local egg festival, it commemorates Mentone as the “Egg Basket of the Midwest.”
