National Trail Mix Day has been a thing since 2017 although this healthy quick treat of dried fruits and nuts has been around for over 100 years. Initially called GORP, for good old raisins and peanuts, this on-the-go snack has morphed into some interesting combinations through the years.
Simple Trail Mix
(Recipe from barefeetinthekitchen.com)
2 cups cashews
1 ½ cup raisins
¾ cup dark or semi-sweet chocolate chips
Mix together in a bowl and store in a seal-tight storage container.
Tropical Trail Mix
(Recipe from eatingbirdfood.com)
¼ cup macadamia nuts
¼ cup raw cashews
¼ cup banana chips
¼ cup dried pineapple
2 tablespoons unsweetened coconut flakes
Mix together in a bowl and store in a seal-tight storage container.
