Every year travel trend studies are done by one group or another and the results range from the obvious to the less obvious. Why do you travel? To relax, to get involved, to experience other cultures? Everyone has their “why” but here are some interesting trends we found from the more recent studies.
One of the hottest travel trends for 2025 is sports tourism, the purpose of which is to either participate or spectate in sporting events.
Many baseball fans have a goal to attend a game in every Major League ballpark in the US. If that’s something of interest, consider the following options: LA Dodgers (camp at Thousand Trails Soledad Canyon); the San Diego Padres (camp at Oceanside RV Resort); Seattle Mariners (camp at Tall Chief Campground); Cincinnati Reds (camp at Thousand Trails Wilmington); Texas Rangers (stay at either Thousand Trails Bay Landing or Thousand Trails Lake Whitney).

Speaking of baseball, the 2025 Major League All-Star Game is set for July 15 at Atlanta’s Truist Park, home of the Atlanta Braves. Plan ahead and book a stay at nearby Pine Mountain RV Resort.

For those that feel the need for speed, consider booking a stay at either Thousand Trails Indian Lakes or Thousand Trails Horseshoe Lakes to attend the Indianapolis 500, which is set for Sunday, May 25. The campgrounds are less than 80 miles from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway where the race is held. The South Point 400, a NASCAR Cup Series event, will be held at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway on October 12 so book a stay at Thousand Trails Las Vegas to attend this event. Another high-speed event to plan for is the annual Daytona 500 which is held every year in Florida in February. Encore Sunshine Holiday Daytona is the perfect camp spot for this event.

A camp stay at Carolina Shores RV Resort will put you in driving distance (get the pun) for the Myrtle Beach Classic, a PGA Tour Event held in this beautiful South Carolina setting. The Tournament is scheduled for May 8-11. Plan ahead and book a stay at Marina Dunes RV Resort to attend next winter’s event, the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am set for January 27 through February 2, held at this world-famous golf course.

Here’s an interesting trend – Cincinnati is fast becoming one of the most favorite cities to travel to because of its affordability as well as its mix of southern and midwestern cultures. If you plan on visiting this 236-year-old destination, nicknamed The Queen City, book a stay at Thousand Trails Wilmington and don’t miss some of the city’s highlights. Take in a Cincinnati Reds game at Great American Ballpark, do a food tour and taste some of Cincinnati’s famous chili options, see the beautiful blooms with a side of wildlife at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens or take in some history at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center.
Another big trend is multi-generational travel where there is something for everyone. Of course, camping offers just that as you can customize your trip to stay onsite for some off-grid family time or visit nearby attractions that have a little bit of everything. Cites that make the list for having multi-generational appeal include Orlando and its theme parks (camp at Thousand Trails Orlando or Encore Tropical Palms); Lake Tahoe which offers a mix of adventure (off-season gondola rides and water sports) and just taking in the scenery (boat rides on Emerald Bay or scenic loop drives) (camp at Tahoe Valley Campground); and Gatlinburg where you can hike the mountain trails or just stroll the streets of downtown Gatlinburg (stay at Pigeon Forge Landing).
