Discover the Most Fun-Filled Fall This Season

If you’re planning a fall camping trip to Thousand Trails Medina Lake, try to take in the Dios De Los Muertos celebration in San Antonio, Texas scheduled for October 26-27. Billed as one of the largest celebrations of its kind, the event is held in the city’s Hemisfair, which was the site of the 1968 World’s Fair, and celebrates the Mexican culture’s remembrance of the dead, or Day of the Dead. Music, art, entertainment, and the traditional altars will be featured.

If you like avocados, you may enjoy the Avocado Festival, Carpinteria, California set for October 4-6. Book a stay at one of Pacific Dunes Ranch’s camping accommodations and head on to celebrate all things avo. There will be live music, artisans and crafters and plenty of food.  The event promises 3 days full of “Peace, Love and Guacamole.”

The pumpkins at the West Coast Giant Pumpkin Regatta are big enough to be used as floating devices and we promise this event is like nothing you’ve ever seen when it comes to the many uses of a pumpkin. Scheduled for October 20, Oregon’s West Coast Giant Pumpkin Regatta will also feature a pumpkin weigh-off, pumpkin races, food, entertainment and all kinds of pumpkin-related stuff that will have you out of your gourd this fall. The Sonoma County Harvest Fair celebrates the best of Sonoma County when it comes to food and wine. Held at the Sonoma County Event Center and Fairgrounds, this event is about 30 miles from Thousand Trails Russian River. Scheduled for Saturday, October 12, the Fair will feature several food and wine competitions, plus entertainment, and a grape-stomping event.

‘Tis the season for apples and there are plenty of orchards around the US to get your fill. Consider a camping trip to San Diego’s Oceanside RV Resort and head up to Julian, the “Apple Capital of Southern California” – specifically check out julianfarmandorchard.com. If you’re camping at Illinois’ Thousand Trails Pine Country, take the short drive to Woodstock’s All Seasons Orchard, which was named by USA Today as one of the top 10 orchards in the country with more than 15,000 apple trees. Another USA Today top orchard is Beak and Skiff’s Apple Orchard in Lafayette, New York, which is less than 50 miles from Brennan Beach Campground,and grows several varieties including Gala, McIntosh and Paula Red.

If you love a good maze, check out some of the best in the country near our campground. Cherry Crest Adventure Farm in Ronks, Pennsylvania (near Thousand Trails PA Dutch Country) offers a 5-acre corn maze with courses for easy, intermediate and difficult. Indiana’s Exploration Acres offers a corn maze and a pumpkin patch. Book a stay at Indian Lakes to check out the four corn mazes found here that will be open beginning September 13. If you’re camping at Thousand Trails Sturbridge, the best maze in Massachusetts is nearby at Davis Mega Maze, which opens September 28. The winding 8-acre path here has helpers in case you want to give up as well as fun photo ops along the way.
