August 19 is World Photography Day, and one of the best ways to celebrate the impact of photography on the world than to appreciate some famous photos and take some of your own. How often have you captured your camping adventures on film? We found a few fun ways to celebrate this event when you’re camping this year:
Visit Photography Museums and Exhibits: If you’re camping at Thousand Trails Yosemite Lakes, don’t miss the Ansel Adams Gallery located within Yosemite National Park which has an amazing collection of Adam’s original photographs. If you want a historic perspective on photography, check out the H.H. Bennett Studio, the studio and photography museum of noted landscape photographer H.H. Bennett. Located in the Wisconsin Dells, this is a great place to visit if you’re camping at Arrowhead RV Campground. For those making camp near San Diego (Thousand Trails Oakzanita, Oceanside, or Pio Pico) take a trip into the city to visit the Museum of Photographic Arts at The San Diego Museum of Arts, which is dedicated to the collection and preservation of photography.
Snap your own Shots: According to Legacybox.com, the fountain at Las Vegas’ Bellagio hotel is one of the most photographed places in the US. Other spots on their list include the Disney Castle at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida; Washington State’s most famous landmark, the Space Needle in Seattle; and Plymouth Rock, located in Pilgrim Memorial State Park in Massachusetts. Plan your photo adventures for these iconic spots by camping at Nevada’s Thousand Trails Las Vegas, Thousand Trails Orlando in Clermont, Florida; Tall Chief Campground in Fall City, Washington and either Thousand Trails Gateway to Cape Cod or Old Chatham RV Campground in Massachusetts. If you want something for a social media post, consider some of these Instagram-popular outdoor urban wall murals as your backdrops – the Wynwood Walls in Miami, Florida (stay at Encore Miami Everglades); San Francisco’s Mission District’s murals (stay at San Francisco RV Resort); the more than 180 murals around Cincinnati (stay at Thousand Trails Wilmington) or the many muralled walls of Nashville (stay at Thousand Trails Natchez Trace).
By the way, the theme of this year’s World Photography Day, which is actually part of World Photography Week, is “An Entire Day” and if you would like to capture a moment in your day and upload it to Instagram for it to appear on the official World Photography website, visit worldphotographyday.com for details. The goal is to reach 1,500,000 tags on that day.
