What a better way to ring in the holidays than with a craft beer? November 26 is Small Brewery Sunday, which according to chilledmagazine.com, is the day to support local breweries, brewpubs and taprooms across America! If you’re camping, head to the nearest brewpub, taproom, or small brewery and raise a glass in support of these hard-working and innovative brewers. Here are few we found near our campgrounds:
Abide Brewing Company: Located in Newnam, Georgia, Abide was started by two buddies who were into home brewing that morphed into the nano-brewery it is today. Tours and tastings are on Saturdays from 1-5 p.m. and the second Tuesday of every month from 6-9 p.m. Nearest campground is Pine Mountain RV Resort, about 48 miles away.
Amplified Ale Works: With all-gluten free offerings, Amplified Ale Works is a friend to not only the gluten-free population but everyone else too thanks to the rotating 20+ house offerings at their San Diego Kitchen and Beer Garden. Stop in for a Leggy Blonde, a Belgian Blond, of course, or a Juice Springsteen and the Yeast Street, a “juicy’ IPA. Nearest campground is Thousand Trails Pio Pico, in Jamul.
Blackstone Brewing Company: Launched in 1994, Blackstone is one of Nashville’s oldest craft breweries. The producer of several award-winning beers, the Nashville-based Blackstone TapHouse offers 16 beers on tap. Nearest campground is Thousand Trails Natchez Trace in Hohenwald.
Deschutes Brewery: Deschute may well be the granddaddy of all craft brewers, having begun the task in 1988! The Bend Tasting Room and Beer Garden offers brewery tours while the Bend Public House offers not only offers 19 tap beers, but a locally-sourced, beer-centric food menu. Nearest campground is Thousand Trails Bend-Sunriver.
Frothy Beard Brewery: Located in North Charleston, South Carolina, this brewery, which has been in business since 2013, has some interesting offerings like a cucumber-spiked wheat beer and the Choconaut oatmeal stout. Nearest campground is Thousand Trails Oaks at Point South in Yemassee.
Funky Buddha: Have you been wanting to try a peanut butter and jelly brown ale? That would be Funky Buddha’s No Crust. Or if breakfast’s on your mind and on your taste buds, their offering called Maple Bacon Coffee Porter, whose flavor evokes the perfect breakfast, may be the brew for you. Funky Buddha, which originated in Boca Raton, now brews all the fun at their Oakland Park, Florida location. Nearest campground is Encore Sunshine Holiday, less than 20 minutes away.
Russian River Brewing Company: Established in 1997 and still brewing strong, Russian River Brewing Company is known for its popular IPA’s, Pliny the Elder and Pliny the Younger. They also offer several Belgian-inspired beers as well as a variety of ales and lagers. Nearest campground is Thousand Trails Russian River, about 30 miles away.
