When the cherry blossoms are in bloom, spring is very near or already here. In Japan, these gorgeous blooms are known as Sakura and symbolize optimism and renewal. If you want to take in the beauty of a flowering cherry tree while camping this spring, consider the locations below.
Portland, Oregon: If you’re camping with us at Portland Fairview from mid-March to early April, you’re in prime cherry blossom season. There are several areas in the city to take in the beautiful blooms including the Japanese American Historical Plaza located within the Tom McCall Waterfront Park where the blooms of the 100 Akebono Cherry trees planted here are on display. Another spot is the Portland Japanese Garden. Considered one of the most authentic Japanese gardens outside of Japan, cherry blossoms are in bloom from mid- to late March into early April.
Seattle, Washington: A reservation at Tall Chief in late March is perfect if you want to catch blooming season for the cherry trees in the Seattle area. The 130 cherry trees found at the Quad at the University of Washington is one spot to see the cherry blossoms while Seward Park is another option. Plan head and camp with us during Seattle’s annual Cherry Blossom and Japanese Cultural Festival, scheduled for April 14-16 this year.
Nashville, Tennessee: From 2008 to 2018, 1000 cherry trees were planted around Tennessee’s capital city resulting in one beautiful city come spring. Plan to camp with us at nearby Thousand Trails Natchez Trace and take a drive into the city to catch the blooms. If you want to attend the annual Nashville Cherry Blossom Festival, mark your calendar for Saturday, April 15, which is the day the Nashville Public Square hosts this popular event.
Dallas, Texas: Mid- to late March is the time to visit the Dallas Arboretum to see their beautiful blooming cherry trees. Make a camping reservation at Thousand Trails Bay Landing and head into the city to check out not only the blooming cherry trees, but also the Dallas Blooms Festival, which will run through April 16 and highlights all the spring blooms including azaleas and tulips.
