According to globalgrasshopper.com, there are several great destinations for U.S. travel in February. Domestic travel in February sees the traveler embracing winter and visiting the numerous ski towns across the country or sees the traveler seeking sun and sand, hitting the states that have year-round moderate, and sunny, climates. Each destination they listed had specific reasons why. Here are a few that made their list of February travel hotspots, and of course, we’ve got great camping destinations nearby:
Palm Springs, California: The Why – with average temps hovering around 80 degrees, Palm Springs in February is neither not to hot nor too cold so enjoying the bounty of outdoor activity here makes for a beautiful February trip. Thousand Trails Palm Springs is a great home base while you explore nearby Joshua Tree National Park; enjoy the shops and restaurants of downtown Palm Springs; hike the many trails or take a Jeep tour on the San Andreas Fault. February festivals include the Riverside County Fair and Date Festival, scheduled for February 17-26 and Desert WineFest 2023 set for February 25-26.
The Florida Keys: The Why – optimum temps ranging between 70 and 80 degrees for daytime highs and less crowds. We think a stay at either of our Keys locations, Encore Fiesta Key or Encore Sunshine Key RV Resort and Marina is a good February getaway spot. February Festivals include Old Island Days Art Festival (February 25-26) in Key West and the Longboat Key Festival of the Arts on February 25. The Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail is a paved 90-mile trail great for walking, hiking, and biking. Check out Theater of the Seas for an amazing collection of dolphins, sea lions, rays, sharks, and turtles in a lush lagoon.
Hot Springs, North Carolina: The Why – soaking in the natural hot spring with water temperatures around 102 degrees is truly unique when the outside air is a bit nippy. Book a stay at Scenic RV and take a dip for this truly unique experience. Of course, The Biltmore in nearby Asheville is another unique experience – this magnificent estate built by George Vanderbilt in 1895 is a must-see and through the month of February works of Leonardo da Vinci are on display at a special exhibit. Another February favorite is the Mardi Gras Parade in downtown Asheville, scheduled for February 19. Winter hikes here can include Lover’s Leap Loop Trail, a 1.5.mile roundtrip that is part of the Appalachian Trail or the John Rock Trail in Pisgah National Forest – a 5-mile loop with stunning views.
San Antonio, Texas: The Why – the weather! Better than a summer visit to this Texas beauty when the temps soar and sun is quite hot, February days bring 65-72 degree days. Perfect for strolling the famous River Walk with its mix of shops, galleries and restaurants or taking in the history at The Alamo, the 18th century mission that was the site of the Battle of the Alamo. Speaking of missions, there is a great 3-4 hour San Antonio Missions UNESCO World Heritage Sites tour that details the history of the found of San Antonio. Thousand Trails Medina Lake is a great camp spot when exploring San Antonio.
Leavenworth: The Why – plenty of charm and beautiful scenery. We also think a great reason to visit Leavenworth, Washington, in February is to book a stay at Thousand Trails Leavenworth. A getaway to Leavenworth is ideal for those seeking snow and winter fun. The Leavenworth Ski Hill has two ski hills and nearby Stevens Pass has 52 major runs for downhill skiing. Snowshoeing is an option in Lake Wenatchee State Park and snowboarders can check out Stevens Pass for this fun alternative to skiing. Leavenworth Sleigh Rides (leavenworthsleighrides.com) offers several options for a guided sleigh ride through the beautiful snowy scenery. Downtown Leavenworth has wine tasting room, shops, galleries, and a very interesting nutcracker museum (nutcrackermuseum.com).
