According to a recent survey, the camping trends for 2023 provide an interesting assortment to approaching a year of your best camping. First off, its clear that camping will continue to be one of the most popular ways to get away in the new year and the approach to camping adventures will vary according to the trends. Which way will you camp this year?
AstroTourism: Just what is AstroTourism? Simple – it’s a kind of tourism that involves stargazing, says purewow.com. Why the rise in AstroTourism? Well, you can thank the pandemic for that. According to travelmagazine.com, the night sky provided limitless space for people while confined to their homes during the quarantine and for many viewing the sky became a getaway in itself. The year 2023 will be spectacular in regard to astronomic activity as it will include 13 full moons, four eclipses and plenty of meteor showers. Camp near a dark sky community to enjoy these events, or a just the extraordinary night sky anytime.
Borrego Springs, California, Sedona, Arizona, and Fredericksburg, Texas, are designated Dark Sky Communities and nearby camping options include Palm Springs RV, Verde Valley, and Medina Lake, respectively. Other great night sky viewing spots include Maine’s Acadia National Park, just down the road from our Bar Harbor campgrounds. If seeing the Southern Cross, or Crux, is on your celestial bucket list, head to the Florida Keys in May and book a stay at Sunshine Key. This far south destination is the best spot in the contiguous U.S. for seeing this iconic constellation.
Travel Somewhere New: In pursuit of adventure and excitement, campers are looking to go somewhere they haven’t been before and the trending states include Texas, Arizona, Florida, Michigan, and New Hampshire. Luckily, Thousand Trails campers already have a home base in these “unchartered territories.” A trip around the Lonestar State could include top attractions like the San Antonio River Walk, the Alamo, the Texas Hill Country, and the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Yuma, Arizona, promises 308 days of sunshine in a spectacular desert setting annually while Michigan offers Midwest summer fun with beaches, wineries, sand dunes, and homespun fun. New Hampshire is a great destination if you want to combine hiking and history in one trip. There’s the scenic Kancamagus Byway, the iconic New England beaches and Flume Gorge, a natural granite gorge. With more than 40 locations spread across the Sunshine State, a camping trip to Florida can be a real adventure. From The Everglades to The Keys, and all the big and little cities in between, a trip to Florida can indeed fit the bill for visiting a new location for the first time.
Hit the Road More Often: According to the study, campers plan to take 4-6 trips per year. Now, if you’ve got the kind of job that allows you to office from anywhere, this is very doable. But if that’s not your gig right now, don’t despair. Thanks to camping locations that are no more than a few hours’ drive from major cities, quick weekend getaways to see something new can be so 2023. Some quick getaways to consider:
