Well, it’s summer, so most likely you want to camp and enjoy the beach. And, we most definitely have you covered there – take a look at some of these sandy spots when you’re camping nearby.
Massachusetts’ hook of land that curves into the Atlantic, otherwise known as Cape Cod, has more than 600 miles of coastline, so if you’re planning a stay at any of the Cape Cod campgrounds, finding a beach is as simple as finding a good lobster roll here! The vacation booking site, holidu.com, recently released their ranking of best beaches and the Cape Cod winners were Ballston Beach and Nauset Beach. Ballston Beach, located in Truro and less than 30 miles from Old Chatham Road RV Resort, won the top spot thanks to its wide beach with powdery sand. Add in the scenic setting with the dunes as backdrop and you’re postcard worthy. Nauset Beach was ranked Cape Cod’s second-best beach and is less than 15 miles from Old Chatham. Nauset got the nod thanks to its size and great waves.
The beaches of New Jersey’s Cape May have been a popular spot for more than 250 years. Back in the late 1700s, people came in horse-drawn carriages from as far as Philadelphia to enjoy the sun and sand here. There are several public beaches to enjoy in Cape May – and five of our New Jersey campgrounds are within 20 miles of them. If you want to make the choice simple, there are three that consistently win best beach honors – The Cove Beach, Decatur Street Beach, and Poverty Beach. The Cove Beach is noted for great sunsets and great watersports opportunities. Poverty Beach also has fast waves popular with surfers and Decatur is picturesque with plenty of sand on which to soak up the sun.
With beaches, and campgrounds, dotting the Oregon coast, a beach/camp adventure when camping with Thousand Trails in Oregon is as easy as huckleberry pie. There’s Cannon Beach and the iconic Haystack Rock (near Seaside RV Campground); the beach at Yachats State Recreation Area (near South Jetty RV & Camping Resort), an iconic Pacific Coast beach complete with driftwood and crashing waves; and Cobble Beach (near Whalers Rest) which is great for watching sea bird and seals and the amazing sound the ocean makes as it rolls off the beach’s cobblestones.
Camping in Florida this summer? Beaches in the Keys to consider include Smathers Beach (considered one of the prettiest); Bahia Honda State Park (a favorite of Dr. Beach and his listings of America’s best beaches); and Sombrero (free admission, swaying palms trees and gorgeous sunsets). Atlantic side options include Anastasia State Park with its white quartz sand, and Ormond Beach and Cocoa Beach. Gulf-side beaches include Lover’s Key State Park (near Fort Myers) which is considered less crowded and possibly the most beautiful in the area; Nokomis Beach (near Venice) which boasts crystal clear water, soft sand and a great shelling opportunity thanks to the North Jetty; and Fort Desoto Park (near Tampa), which has plenty to do beyond the beach with fishing and kayaking options as well as hiking and biking trails.
