How excited are we that the summer camping season has begun? If you’ve been camping with us for years or are new to camping this year, our #100DaysofCamping is a great campaign to follow to make the most of the season. Why 100 Days? Simply, there are 100 days between Memorial Day (the unofficial start of summer) and Labor Day (the unofficial end of summer.) Thanks to the abundance of campgrounds around the country, 100 days of camping is definitely achievable. And, if your schedule doesn’t allow for 100 days, then camp as many as you can. Here are some ideas to get your camping days in this summer.
Explore a National Park: Camping with Thousand Trails near National Parks can be experienced in many states. Maine’s Acadia National Park, California’s Yosemite National Park or Joshua Tree National Park, Florida’s Everglades National Park or Dry Tortugas, or Washington’s Mt. Rainier are just a few. To find a national park near your favorite campground, visit www.nps.gov.
Enjoy A Theme Park: Camp near one of America’s best theme parks and enjoy all the fun. King’s Island, which is just 30 miles from Ohio’s Wilmington RV, is celebrating 50 years this year with the summer-long “Golden Celebration.” Six Flags Gurnee in Illinois is just an hour’s drive from Pine Country and unveiled the new DC Universe section of the park. California’s LEGOLAND is just 55 minutes from Pio Pico RV Campground and the LEGO Movie World exhibit this summer.
Look for Seashells: In the Pacific Northwest, one of the best beaches for shells is in Bandon, Oregon (about 75 miles from South Jetty RV Campground). California’s Stinson Beach has sand dollars and limpet shells and is just north of San Francisco (stay at San Francisco RV or Russian River). Florida’s Sanibel Island (less than 30 from Ft. Myers Beach RV Resort) is world-renowned for its shelling opportunities.
Hit the Trails: Whether they be biking or hiking trails, there are a lot of trails near our campgrounds. Some of the campgrounds even have nature trails right on site. Camp at Miami Everglades RV Resort and tackle the 15-mile round trip biking adventure at Shark Valley Trail in Everglades National Park. A bit more of a lengthy bike ride can be experienced in Bend, Oregon, on the 36.3 round trip ride on the Twin Bridges Loop (book a stay at Bend-Sunriver RV Campground). For hiking, check out the Petroglyph Wall Trail in Las Vegas’ Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area (camp at nearby Las Vegas RV Resort). The Point Lobos State Natural Reserve (near Marina Dunes RV Resort) has more than a dozen trails offering scenic views.
Enjoy A Theme Weekend (or two): Thousand Trails campgrounds really know how to bring the summer fun from luaus to pet parades, to sports competitions and drive-in movie nights, plus plenty of cooking challenges, throwback weekends, and holiday weekend celebrations. Luau fun is planned at Soledad Canyon (CA – late August); Cherokee Landing (TN – mid-July) and Lake Conroe (TX – late June). Amateur chefs will enjoy the Grill Master’s Weekend at Texas’ Lake Tawakoni August 21-22; Virginia’s Chesapeake Bay’s Pig in the Park event set for July 30-August 1 where it’s all about the BBQ; or Michigan’s Bear Cave BBQ Cook-Off Weekend scheduled for July 16-18.
