Dare we say it? Will Summer 2022 be the summer to rival all the fun you had in Summer 2019 before the world spun everyone into a different axis for quite a bit? Just about anything you could see or do in 2019 is back open, on schedule, and welcoming back visitors. Let’s look ahead (fingers crossed) to what looks like plain, old, regular fun for this summer!
Baseball: After a shortened season in 2020 and a somewhat back to normal season in 2021, albeit with attendance and COVID-19 protocols, major league baseball in 2022 is back on a regular schedule with ballparks allowing full attendance. If you love baseball as much as you love camping, note that several of our locations are near Major League stadiums!
In about an hour’s drive from camp, you can take in the home games of the Boston Red Sox (Gateway to Cape Cod); the Cleveland Guardians (Kenisee Lake); the Cincinnati Reds (Wilmington); the Houston Astros (Lake Conroe) and the Philadelphia Phillies (various PA Dutch campgrounds); in approximately less than 30 minutes, home games would include the San Diego Padres (Pio Pico); the San Francisco Giants (San Francisco RV); and the Seattle Mariners (Tall Chief).
Civil War Reenactment: To commemorate the 159th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, the Gettysburg Battlefield Preservation Association will host a reenactment of the historic battle on July 2 at Daniel Farm in Gettysburg, which borders the Gettysburg National Military Park.
Fourth of July: According to USA Today, these cities located near our campgrounds really know how to throw a Fourth of July party. They include Boston, which celebrates with the four-day Boston Harborfest 2022 with festivities running June 30 through July 3; Nashville hosts Let Freedom Sing – free activities on the Fourth include a Family Fun Zone and a fireworks display accompanied by live music by the Nashville Symphony. There is also a series of concerts preceding Independence Day with big-name performers set to perform in various venues around the city beginning on June 30. Of course, the best party may be where our independence began: Philadelphia. The city’s plans include Party on the Parkway, a block party in the city’s Historic District, a Salute to America parade and a free concert and fireworks display.
Music Festivals: The summer air will again be filled with a variety of live music thanks to the return of outdoor music festivals. Some of the big ones set for 2022 include Bonnaroo (near Natchez Trace in Tennessee); Fisherman’s Village Music Fest (near Thunderbird in Washington); the Hollywood Bowl Jazz Festival (near Soledad Canyon in California); Lollapalooza (near Pine Country in Illinois); Summerfest (near Plymouth Rock in Wisconsin) and the Waterfront Blues Fest (near Portland Fairview in Oregon). Not seeing a music event near your favorite campground? Check out musicfestivalwizard.com for a listing of all summer music events around the U.S.
State Fairs: Corn dogs and deep fried everything, crazy carnival rides and midway games, live music and competitions, and a healthy dose of nostalgia are the things that make State Fairs summer must-dos. Plan ahead to visit these fairs planned for this summer: California State Fair, July 15-31 (in Sacramento, near Lake Minden); Indiana State Fair, July 29-August 21 (in Indianapolis, near Indian Lakes); Kentucky State Fair, August 18-28 (in Louisville, near Diamond Caverns); Ohio State Fair, July 27-August 7 (in Columbus, near Wilmington).
Thousand Trails Theme Weekends: Our theme weekends are back in full swing at our locations, and they include luaus, food events and competitions, throwback weekends, talent shows and sport competitions, movie nights, dances and of course, Club Blazer and National Trails Day events.
