How to Celebrate the Earth this April

April is the month that we honor our amazing Earth and the wondrous U.S. National Parks, plus there’s also Arbor Day (April 29) and National Lawn and Garden Day on April 14. So green is definitely a theme here and what better way to celebrate green than by getting outdoors, pitching in, doing your part, and enjoying all the natural beauty just waiting for you.

National Park Week: This April, from April 16 to April 24, we celebrate our National Parks. A gift from the National Park Service to park patrons in honor of this celebration is free admission to any national park on April 16. There are over 400 national parks across the U.S. but camping with us near one of the those is a double celebration. Consider Yosemite Lakes RV Resort as your camp location while you explore Yosemite National Park, which is right down the road. Springtime in Yosemite brings waterfalls, spring blooms and less crowds.  A sunny and warm visit is pretty much guaranteed when you visit Florida’s Everglades National Park. Spring marks the end of the hibernation of the wildlife here so animals are more active and lots of animal babies are born at this time. Plus, everything is greening up. Miami Everglades RV Resort is the perfect camp spot as it is less than 10 miles from the Park.  Enjoy the rolling, green hills of Kentucky and a few caverns to boot. Check out Mammoth Cave National Park and plan a stay at Diamond Caverns RV Resort.

Earth Day: “Invest In Our Planet” is the theme for Earth Day 2022 which will be celebrated on April 22. Earth Day falls on a Friday this year so a weekend eco-camping trip sounds like a great way to celebrate. One way to celebrate Earth Day is to be car-free so once you’ve landed at camp, hike or bike the nearby trails and enjoy recreation at the campground or at your campsite. Create your own Earth Day Scavenger Hunt that includes earth-friendly challenges like finding a recycle bin, spotting a budding tree, or certain species of wildlife. Dine on reusable dinnerware and practice the pack-in/pack-out concept. Attend a major Earth Day event, like the one planned in San Diego on Sunday, April 24, in the city’s Balboa Park. EarthFair 2022 begins at 10 a.m. – for details visit earthdayweb.org. Book a campsite at Pio Pico RV Resort & Campground to be less than 30 minutes from the event.

April is also Keep America Beautiful Month so vow to practice the three Rs: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. If you’re camping at Medina Lake RV Campground in April, take a drive to the Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park in Fredericksburg. This beautiful park is named in honor of former First Lady Lady Bird Johnson who teamed up with the Keep America Beautiful project in 1965 and was a huge advocate of making cities more beautiful by planting flowers and other greenery.
