Aside from the backdrop of the snow-covered mountains, this beautiful Bavarian-style village is ready for the holiday with a million twinkling lights and events like a Gingerbread House Exhibition, carolers, a winter market, chestnut roasting, and plenty of holiday characters, including Mr. and Mrs. Claus. St. Augustine, Florida: Experience holiday dazzle, thanks to the more than 3 million twinkling lights all around the city, found in St. Augustine, Florida, during the annual Night of Lights event, held this year from November 23, 2024, through January 26, 2025. The festival harkens back to the early days of St. Augustine, which by the way is America’s Oldest City. Circa the mid-1500s, the Spanish settlers would light candles in their windows, illuminating the city. Enjoy the lights while taking an Old Town Trolley Tour or strolling through the city enjoying the shops and restaurants.

McAdenville, North Carolina: This small town (pop. 700) goes big when it comes to the holidays. So big that they’ve given themselves the nickname, Christmas Town USA. Thanks to a tradition that is more than 50 years old, this little town lights up big each holiday as residents come together to display more than 500,000 twinkling lights around the town, set up the Nativity scene, and decorate their own homes. The public is welcome to drive the 1.3-mile-long route of lights and more than 100 decorated homes. The town’s annual Yule Log Ceremony is set for December 12, 2024, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The Yule Log is pulled through the town on a sleigh led by children, followed by residents and visitors. Once the log is placed in the town’s open fireplace, it is lit to begin the celebration of the Christmas Town Festival.
