B-I-N-G-O

December is BINGO month. Although the game is centuries old, dating to the 1500s, it was first manufactured in the U.S. in the 1929 and, for some reason, December was earmarked as BINGO’s birthday month. Maybe it was the most popular holiday gift in 1929? For whatever reason, let’s celebrate BINGO this month. You can certainly play the traditional game at camp (check out this link gluesticksgumdrops.com/?s=camping+bingo for free printable cards with camping themes) or see if your favorite campground’s activities include a BINGO night. Or you can play our way…..

We thought it would be fun to round up camping activities related to the letters in BINGO. We think they are all winners!

Whalers Rest RV Campground, Oregon

B:  B-related activities can include birding, bocce, or basketball. Love birding? Check out the Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail (floridabirdingtrail.com) which has more than 500 locations around the state. Oregon also has a birding trail, the Oregon Coast Birding Trail (oregoncoastbirding.com) that runs down the coast. Check out these trails’ websites and then see which of our campgrounds are the best place to nest while you explore them. If you’re looking for some friendly competition, check out thousandtrails.com to see if your favorite campground has basketball or bocce courts. Most of them do, so this B is easy.

I: Ice-skating! Lots of options here! Curry Village, located in Yosemite National Park, is one when you book a stay at nearby Yosemite Lakes. Other options include the Holiday Ice Rink in San Francisco’s Union Square (stay at San Francisco RV), Pershing Square in Los Angeles (stay at Soledad Canyon), or the Skating by the Sea holiday event at the Coronado Hotel near San Diego (stay at Pio Pico). Planning a stay at Lake Conroe in Texas? For ice skating options, check out Ice at the Galleria, Houston’s oversized indoor rink that resides inside the famous Houston Galleria shopping mall.

N: N can be Nashville fun or Nevada attractions. Plan a stay at Natchez Trace (another “N”) and head into Music City. Must-sees are the Grand Ole Opry, the Ryman Auditorium, the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, and Cheekwood Estate and Gardens. As for Nevada, there are all the attractions along The Strip, plus the Neon Museum, Fremont Street, and the fantastic hiking on the Calico Basin Trail and in Red Rock Canyon.

G: G is for grapes. We have plenty of locations near grape-growing regions, or more specifically, wineries. Book a stay at California’s Rancho Oso and explore the Santa Barbara wine country. Another option is Russian River which is located in Sonoma County, one of California’s largest wine-producing regions. Fredericksburg, Texas, is another well-known area for wine production and has more than 100 wineries in the area. Book a stay at Medina Lake in nearby Lakehills to explore Texas wine country.

Sonoma Valley Vineyard

O: O is for the ocean and the great outdoors, all of which can be found in our Oregon (get it, another “O”) campgrounds located on the Pacific coast. Starting up north, there’s Seaside, which is just a few miles from Cannon Beach, where the iconic haystack Rock can be found rising from the Pacific. Then a bit south is Pacific City, with more fabulous ocean views and great hiking on the Cape Lookout Trail. More ocean views are in store when you stay at Whalers Rest in South Beach, plus the opportunity to glimpse the migrating gray whales. Rounding out the Oregon coast campgrounds is South Jetty in Florence. Fat-tire bike on the beach, get in some fishing or some fabulous photos of the Heceta Head Lighthouse.
