Best Hikes for National Hiking Month

Hiking is great exercise and has been proven to lower risk of heart disease, boost bone density and strengthen your core. Aside from those health benefits, here’s another reason to go hiking – November is National Hiking Month! Celebrate this month and take a hike. We’ve got some great hikes for you to consider.

California: Walk among the stars at Runyon Canyon Park, a popular trail in Los Angeles. Who know which celebrities might be taking in this 1.9-mile loop with an elevation change of 500 feet! It’s also dog friendly!

Nearest campground is Soledad Canyon RV Resort, which offers RV sites, cabins, and cottages.

Nevada: Just outside of Las Vegas, the Calico Basin Trail is considered an easy hike with visual highlights that include rock formations, birds, reptiles, and bighorn sheep. An interesting hike through several tunnels can be found at the Lake Mead Railway Trail that takes hikers on a round trip distance of 7.5 miles along the south shore of Lake Mead.

Nearest campground is Las Vegas RV Resort, where you can book an RV site or stay in a cabin.

Oregon: Why not promenade? The Seaside Boardwalk is a nice way to walk the beach and enjoy the ocean views while getting in a good 1.5-mile leisurely walk. For a more strenuous outing, tackle the Tillamook Head Trail. Classified as a moderate hike at just over 6 miles, this hike will take you through a coastal rain forest with pine and fir trees.

Nearest campground is Seaside RV Resort. Enjoy RV sites, cabins, and cottages at this coastal campground.

Texas: Tackle the Lone Star Trail in Sam Houston National Forest which runs 128 miles in all but is divided into separate sections where hikers can glimpse wildlife, streams, and a variety of tree species.

Lake Conroe RV & Camping Resort

Nearest campground is Lake Conroe RV & Camping Resort, which features RV sites and cabins. Bring your boat and launch it right from the campground for a sunset cruise after a day of hiking.  

Virginia: Scenic views of the Rappahannock River are in store when you hike the four miles of trails at Vorhees Nature Preserve in Colonial Beach, Virginia. Options include a hike to overlook a beaver pond (a little over 1.5-miles round trip) or one that takes you to a bluff overlooking the river (a little over 2 miles round trip).

Washington: The great thing about camping at Chehalis is that they have their own hiking trail right onsite! Enjoy the 2.3-mile loop in the lush forest setting right in your own camping backyard!
