The Best Fall Camping Plans

Thoughts of fall camping bring about images of cozy campfires, comfort food camp side, outdoor fun among the glorious changing colors, and some ghosts stories to end the day’s fun.

Let’s find the best of the best when it comes to camping this fall and the perfect camping locations to put you in the center of it all!

If you time it right, you can find fall color changes all over the US. Check out

Chehalis RV Campground

farmersalmanac.com/fall-leaves-foliage-dates-map to find the best times to visit to see the color shows where your fall plans are taking you. Consider camping at Washington’s Chehalis RV Campground and a hike through Rainbow Falls State Park or California’s Yosemite Lakes RV Resort and enjoy the color change in Yosemite National Park (and the smaller crowds!). Or try  Maine’s Mt. Desert Narrows Camping Resort or Narrows Too Camping Resort to catch the Acadia National Park leaf peeping opportunities. Even Florida offers a color change – check out the Flying Eagle Preserve which is about 30 miles from Three Flags RV Campground.

How about some background research for your spooky campfire stories? We’ve found a few haunted spots you can visit during the day that might scare the daylights out of you.

Take a tour of Waverly Hills Sanatorium (therealwaverlyhills.com) in Louisville, Kentucky and then head back to camp at Diamond Caverns RV Resort and see if your stories can be any spookier than what you experience at Waverly, said to be one of the most haunted places in the world due to the extremely high death toll from tuberculosis patients who did not survive the disease. Make a camp reservation at Drummer Boy Camping Resort in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and take one of several haunted tours offered in the area where more than 50,000 souls were lost during the Civil War’s bloodiest battle in July 1863. See where Lizzie Borden supposedly took up that axe and did in her father and stepmother with a visit to the Lizzie Borden House in Fall River, Massachusetts, just about an hour’s drive from Sturbridge RV Resort. Just hide the wood chopping tools when you get back to camp!

What is fall without a visit to a pumpkin patch, an apple orchard and a corn maze or two? The corn maze at Cherry Crest Adventure Farm (cherrycrestfarm.com) consistently ranks in the top 10 of corn mazes every year. Plan a stay at any one of the PA Dutch Campgrounds and check out this year’s maze which is themed “Celebrating Hometown Heroes.” Happy Day Farm (happydayfarmnj) is just about an hour from New Jersey’s Chestnut Lake RV Campground and offers another award-winning corn maze as well as pumpkin picking and other harvest events. Swans Trail Farms (swanstrailfarms) in Snohomish, Washington is less than 10 minutes from Thunderbird RV & Camping Resort so you can pick some apples and go back for more if you eat them all! The apple orchard opens September 18 for picking!
