April Adventures

Spring break is over and summer vacations are a few months away, but don’t pack away the travel and camping gear. We’ve got some ideas for some fun April getaways.

Pacific City RV Campground

Whale Watching:  April begins the migration of the gray whale as they make their way north from their Baja Mexico breeding lagoons to the colder feeding grounds in Alaska. The last to head north is the mamas and their babies, so you may just spy a cute little family whale watching from the Oregon coast spots including Depoe Bay (near Whalers Rest RV Campground) and Cape Kiwanda (near Pacific City RV Campground), or head to Washington’s Thunderbird RV Campground and take a whale-watching cruise out of nearby Everett (check out

Colorado River RV Campground

Spring Blooms: You pick – bluebonnets or tulips? Maybe a blooming cherry tree or two? If you’ve always wanted to see the Washington D.C. cherry blossoms, book an April stay at Harbor View RV Campground in Colonial Beach, Virginia, and take a drive to our nation’s capital for this springtime event. The Texas Hill Country is awash in the spring blooms of the state’s flower, the bluebonnet. Colorado River RV Campground is a great place to stay while you explore Hill Country and its beautiful blooms. Washington’s Skagit Valley Tulip Festival runs from April 1 through April 30 and the attraction here is the millions of bursting tulips across the valley. For details and a downloadable brochure, visit La Conner RV Campground is a perfect spot to stay while you get your tulip time in.

Rancho Oso RV Campground

“No Weather Worries” Drives: By the time April rolls around, snowstorms are less and less likely, so it’s an ideal time to take longer drives to explore all parts of the country. Consider a drive down California’s Pacific Coast from Santa Barbara to San Diego, stopping to stay with us along the way at Rancho Oso RV Campground, Soledad Canyon RV Campground, and Pio Pico RV Campground. Or, check out the east coast waters and tackle Florida’s Overseas Highway and island-hop around the Keys. We have two great stop-and-stay locations along the route – Fiesta Key RV Campground and Sunshine Key RV Campground. Plan a stay at Carolina Landing RV Campground and explore the Cherokee Foothills Scenic Byway, a historic route used by the Native Americans as well as English and French fur traders. Don’t miss Table Rock State Park which is great for scenic hikes, charming Landrum with its antique shops, or the historic walking tour of Seneca, complete with history and food highlights!

Pretty Perfect Weather: It’s pretty close to perfect weather in these destinations and we’ve got great campgrounds for the stay. Palm Springs, California, experiences plenty of sunshine, little to no rain and temperatures in the low 80s during April. Reserve a stay at Palm Springs RV Resort in Palm Desert. San Diego boasts less than an inch of April showers and has daytime temperatures hovering around 70 degrees and plenty of sunshine. Pio Pico RV Campground can be your sunny San Diego getaway. Charleston, South Carolina, is pretty picturesque this time of year with great weather and blooming magnolia trees. Explore this charming and historic city and make The Oaks at Point South your home base.
