March is World Safari Month and while the timing might not be just right for a trek to another country, you can discover wildlife right in your own backyard, so to speak. The U.S. is home to several wildlife parks that will provide some great insight into the world of the animal kingdom.
Out of Africa Wildlife Park (Camp Verde, Arizona): There are plenty of options here including the African Bush Safari where you ride aboard the park’s safari vehicle and get pretty up close and personal with giraffes, zebra, and sable antelope. There are also several shows to take in such as the TigerSplash that features Bengal and Siberian tigers or the Creature Feature that spotlights the animals with facts and close-up views. Stay at Verde Valley RV Resort and you’re less than 20 miles from this adventure.
Safari West (Santa Rosa, California): A bit of the Serengeti in wine country is what you can find at Safari West, a 400-acre preserve in Santa Rosa. Nearly 900 animals including wildebeests, ring-tailed lemurs, and giraffe can be seen here. Have you ever seen, or even heard of, a bongo or a bontebok? You’ll find them at Safari West as you climb aboard their safari wagon and head out on this unique Cali adventure.
Lion Country Safari (Loxahatchee, Florida): Both walk-through and drive-through safari options are available here and visitors can experience all kinds of wildlife from tapirs to ostrich to antelope and Asian water buffalo. Unique animal experiences include the Flamingo Mingle and painting events with giraffes and parrots. The Gorongosa Reserve is where you’ll find the lions for which the park gets its name. Loxahatchee is about an hour from Sunshine Holiday RV Resort in Ft. Lauderdale.
Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch (San Antonio, Texas): Go on safari Texas-style at this 450-plus acre ranch that features 500 different exotic animals. Billed as part-education, part-preservation, visitors have the option to take several different treks via a car that covers about four miles as the animals roam freely about.
Virginia Safari Park (Natural Bridge, Virginia): Set on 180 acres, visitors can choose a walk-through option where they can feed a giraffe and observe Bengal tigers in their play yards or a drive-through option to see animals roam freely. They also offer several animal encounters that feature sloths, Southern White Rhinos, and African penguins. A stay at Lynchburg RV Resort puts you just 36 miles from the Safari Park.
