The folks of the Skagit Valley in Washington rely on Mother Nature to determine when the start of their annual Tulip Festival can begin! For over 34 years, visitors from around the United States and all over the world journey to the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. The festival spans the month of April, but that all depends on when the tulips bloom, so keep an eye on a bloom map to track when the action really starts. Once you are here, there are a plethora of activities for you and your family and friends to enjoy!
The main events are the vast tulip fields that will dazzle you with the burst of color and will garner extra “likes” for all of your Instagram photos! You won’t want to put down your camera to remember how you marveled at such natural beauty.
Drive through Tulip Town to see the fields located between McLean Road and Calhoun Road, plus other locations on Best Road and Beaver Marsh Road. Also be sure to check out the daffodil fields, which are located in the same general area as the tulip fields. Be sure to download a festival map so you can plan ahead, or just drive around the area and discover the area for yourself!
Take a guided or self-guided bike tour through Tulip Country Bike Tours. For a self-guided tour ($40 adults; $10 children under 16 accompanied by an adult,) they provide a map and will provide suggestions based on what you’d like to see. Or, take a guided tour with a group of 12 or more where you’ll ride approximately 8 miles to experience the festival “from a local’s perspective.”
The Skagit Valley Tulip Festival takes place at multiple venues around the Skagit Valley, so be sure to check the website for the most up-to-date information.
While you’re in town for the tulip festival, be sure to also visit some of the Skagit Valley’s local establishments like the Eagle Haven Winery, where you can taste unique artisan wines and hang out in their cozy tasting room or back garden. Or visit the La Conner Brewing Company, a family-owned and operated brewpub, established by Skagit Valley locals, Pam and Doug. At the La Conner Brewing company, you can enjoy a variety of beers, ciders, and wines, plus a menu of classic brewpub eats;
The Skagit Valley Tulip Festival is set to take place from April 1-30, 2018. The Skagit Valley is located about a 20-minute drive from Mount Vernon RV Campground; about 40 minutes from Grandy Creek RV Campground; and about 20 – 30 minutes from La Conner RV Campground.
