The Best Places to See Fall Foliage in the Northeast

This month, we are revisiting some of our favorite places to see the changing of the seasons in the Northeast! The states in the Northeast are well known for their incredible fall foliage colors this time of the year. We can’t wait to fall into camping with you this year!

New York

View the foliage from a unique perspective – the Hudson River. Hudson River Cruises, located in Kingston, NY, is only a 30-minute drive from the Rondout Valley campground. The cruises, which have been operating for 35 years, will bring you on an informative tour of the Hudson River Valley as the leaves turn. You’ll spot picturesque Hudson River lighthouses, orchards, vineyards, all against the backdrop of the changing leaves, all from the decks of their ship, the Rip Van Winkle.

Take the Prospect Mountain Park Trail in Lake George to experience the New York fall foliage by foot! Don’t forget to bring your camera. This out-and-back trail is dog-friendly. Just be ready for the real reward: the views when you reach the top. This trail is approximately a 40-minute drive from the Alpine Lake.Alpine Lake RV Resort – Corinth, NY

Pennsylvania

Whether you’re driving through the colorful countryside of Lancaster County or taking in the scenery on foot through one of Pennsylvania’s many parks, there are plenty of leaf-peeping locales in the Keystone State. The hike up to Pinnacle Overlook is a beautiful way to see the changing colors and provides a big payoff with panoramic views of the Susquehannock River. Be sure to take a picnic lunch with you! The views up here will have you wanting to stay awhile. The Pinnacle Overlook can be accessed from Spring Gulch or Sun Valley via White Oak Road; from Circle M via PA-324 S; from Hershey via PA -272 S. If you’d rather see fall foliage from the comfort of your vehicle, take the I-81 from Harrisburg to the New York State line and treat yourself to incredible changing colors. Hershey RV & Camping Resort – Lebanon, PA

New Hampshire

Canoe along the Contoocook River to experience the beauty of the New Hampshire foliage. Contoocook River is located no more than a 15-minute drive from Sandy Beach RV Resort. It is 71 miles long and flows from Pool Pond and Contoocook Lake and empties into the Merrimack River. The folks at the family owned and operated Contoocook River Canoe company will set you up with a rented canoe so you can experience the fall foliage of New Hampshire at your own pace.Sandy Beach RV & Camping Resort – Contoocook, NH

Maine

The best time to visit Maine to view the changing colors is early to mid-October, so this is your early warning! The Grafton Notch State Park, a huge state park with trails for hiking, cross-country skiing, biking and more is an option that guarantees views of the fall foliage. It’s a little bit of a trek from the Moody Beach RV Campground, but with so much to see and do here, it would be worth the 2-hour drive.
