Maybe you’ve heard rumblings of a spectacular celestial event happening later this summer…It’s a total solar eclipse when the sun passes behind the moon’s shadow. This is called the “umbra shadow” and at the perfect moment, the sky and the earth darken just for a few minutes. Want to witness this spectacular event for yourself? Here at Thousand Trails and Encore campgrounds, some of our campgrounds are within, or very close to, the path the eclipse will take, which is known as “the path of totality.” While this happens, everything around you may also change, making your world feel just a little bit weirder for a few moments… Birds may cease their chirping, dogs may howl, and you’ll feel a chill pass over you as the temperature drops. On August 21st, thousands, potentially millions, of people around the country will attempt to witness this total solar eclipse. This kind of solar eclipse hasn’t passed over the Lower 48 states since 1979, so it is rare and people want to see it! According to NASA, the path of totality will move from the Oregon coast and travel southeast towards the Carolinas.
